The first Red Hot
Fibre exhibition was held at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, Mt Coot-tha,
April 1997. This exhibition was developed and managed in conjunction
with the Papermakers of Queensland. Forty-eight artists contributed
to the work displayed at this exhibition. Approximately 500 people attended
the exhibition during the 1997 Easter weekend. The exhibition also included
public workshops
and seminars by papermakers during the exhibition.
After Red Hot Fibre
'97, it became apparent that the possibility exisited to develop a regular
show of this type. Therefore the Red Hot Fibre Collective was formed
to
pursue this opportunity. A successful grant application
was made to Arts Queensland for funding to mount the exhibition and
to build on the success of Red Hot Fibre '97. With this funding the
Collective was able to hire a project manager, engage a graphic artist
and promotions consultant. These initiatives were undertaken to generate
a high profile and very professional image for the exhibition.
